Vietnam's official sources differ in places: an older portal limits the portrait to 50 KB. A recent photo without glasses, saved as a small JPG, meets both. If the form refuses a large file, try a smaller one.

Applying for a Vietnam e-Visa

Apply only on the official e-Visa portal, evisa.gov.vn. Since 15 August 2023 the e-Visa has been open to citizens of all countries, for stays of up to 90 days. The government fee is about US$25 for single entry and US$50 for multiple entry. You can also get a visa through the Embassy of Vietnam in Canberra.

How to get your Vietnam visa photo right

  1. Check what your trip needs. Read the guide above to see whether your Vietnam trip needs a visa or travel authorisation, and whether that application asks for a photo.
  2. Take a new photo. Take a recent photo facing the camera in even light, on a white background, ideally with someone else holding the camera. Compare it with the sample photos on this page.
  3. Crop it to the Vietnam size. Crop without stretching or editing, to match the requirements table. Photo size: 4 × 6 cm; Digital / submission: e-Visa upload; File: JPG, < 2 MB.
  4. Apply through the official channel. Upload or attach the photo as the official website, app, embassy or visa centre asks. Its current checklist takes priority over this guide.
