No fixed size in millimetres

Thailand's official e-Visa guide sets a file limit but no size in millimetres or pixels. A standard 35 × 45 mm passport-style photo on white meets the rules above. Make sure it looks like you do now.

The 30-day rule and the TDAC

Some Thai embassy pages, including older versions of the Canberra embassy's page, still mention 60 days; the 30-day limit applies from 15 September 2026. All foreign visitors must submit the free Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 3 days before arrival. The TDAC does not ask for a photo.

How to get your Thailand visa photo right

  1. Check what your trip needs. Read the guide above to see whether your Thailand trip needs a visa or travel authorisation, and whether that application asks for a photo.
  2. Take a new photo. Take a recent photo facing the camera in even light, on a white background, no more than 6 months old, ideally with someone else holding the camera. Compare it with the sample photos on this page.
  3. Crop it to the Thailand size. Crop without stretching or editing, to match the requirements table. Photo size: Passport style; Digital / submission: e-Visa upload; File: JPG, ≤ 3 MB.
  4. Apply through the official channel. Upload or attach the photo as the official website, app, embassy or visa centre asks. Its current checklist takes priority over this guide.
